How do you get selected for Team GB?

Getting selected for Team GB involves a combination of talent, dedication, and strategic planning. Athletes must first excel in their sport, often competing at national and international levels to catch the eye of selectors. Consistent top-tier performances are crucial. The selection process typically involves meeting specific qualification standards or times set by the national governing bodies of each sport.

Athletes must also demonstrate their potential to perform under pressure on the world stage. “Everyone wants to sit in your seat until they have to sit in your seat... very few people understand what winning and success does to an individual's mental health. They don't understand the pressures these individuals put on themselves to win over and over again,” said Adam Peaty, reflecting on the process. Finally, selectors consider an athlete's ability to contribute to the team's overall success, including their experience, resilience, and teamwork.

Who has the most Olympic medals?

Michael Phelps is the athlete with the most Olympic medals ever. The American swimmer won an incredible 28 medals, including 23 golds.

For the Great Britain team, Sir Chris Hoy, the legendary track cyclist, has the most Olympic medals: 7. He won six gold medals and one silver over the course of three Olympic Games.

In the 2024 Olympics, the athlete who won the most medals was swimmer Katie Ledecky from the United States, who secured five medals, four of them gold, in Paris.

Matt Richards and Duncan Scott were the Team GB standouts. They both won two medals, a gold and a silver, in swimming events.
